About this block

fc00::/7 is IPv6's equivalent of the private IPv4 ranges. In practice addresses start with fd, followed by a random 40-bit prefix that each network picks for itself, so two private networks rarely clash when they're joined.

Where you'll see it

  • Home and office networks that use IPv6 internally.
  • VPNs, containers and Kubernetes clusters.
